In Episode 249, your host Rob Booker wraps up his three-part “You Can’t Do This” series. I think we all suspected there was going to be some kind of twist to these past couple of episodes, and it turns out — we were right. Rob talks about the prevalence of naysayers and the remarkable success rate of traders. Rob spends some time during this episode responding to blogger James Altucher, who has some dismal thoughts about the prospects of trading. Be sure to listen!

In Episode 248, your host Rob Booker reads about insider trading in the New York Times pertaining to a U.S. attorney in Manhattan who has 80 convictions without a single defeat. Rob wonders if there’s a different way to remove the incentive from the greediness of insider trading. And Rob asks the listeners if they trade solely for the money or if trading just a game. Rob also wonders what the true incentive is for superior performance over time. All these questions make Rob wonder about the next financial apocalypse. And Rob wraps up by spending more time talking about why you can’t trade for a living. Does Rob have a method to his madness or just madness? Keep listening and find out!

Episode 244 of The Traders Podcast is Part 2 of Scott Welsh’s “The Retirement Lie.” (So, if you haven’t heard the previous episode yet, please go back and listen to Episode 243: The Retirement Lie – Part 1 prior to playing this one.) Your usual host, Rob Booker, is enjoying a two-week vacation from podcasting, so for the next few episodes, The Coach Scott Welsh will be our guest host.

And in this second episode of four, Scott tells us more about “The Retirement Lie.” Scott begins this episode by discussing a Wall Street Journal article that examines this Retirement Lie. Scott says there are two questions he wants us to think about regarding our retirement: 1.) How can I retire as fast as possible? 2.) Since I like my job, how much can I save? Yes, Scott also addresses the question: What if I don’t want to retire? So, you’re going to hear Scott run the numbers and explain “the vision” to Jason. Don’t miss this one! And thanks for listening.

It has been exactly 132 episodes since we last had a TraderRadio Flashback! For those who don’t know, TraderRadio.net (circa 2008 – 2009) was the precursor to The Traders Podcast. We sometimes enjoy looking back at the concerns of the day five years ago and comparing how they relate to our present trading. So, in this recording you’ll hear your host, Rob Booker, chatting with his old friends Corbin Layton and Joshua Hauck (the Ohio River swimmer) in an episode recorded on June 15, 2009, titled “Calamity, Collapse and Trading Redemption.” Rob and the boys talk about the transformation that occurs within a trader after experiencing a margin call (or some other humbling experience). And they also spend some time talking about some news items pertaining to the summer of 2009, such as the Eurozone economy, as well as the dollar bear trend and more. Thanks for listening!
