Happy Thanksgiving! For Episode 206, your host Rob Booker solocasts and recounts a tale from April 2013 when he and Bradley Fried traveled across America, talking to traders. Rob says there are no original stories and explains why trading is the worst place to play God. He also talks about a common phenomenon where people think they’re different (when they’re actually not). And Rob tells a story of an adventure he had in a bookstore as an eavesdropper. All this and more in Episode 206 of The Traders Podcast. Thanks for listening.

For Episode 205, your host Rob Booker muses about the facets of change. Rob also talks about two steps that traders can take to avoid the equivalent of “home buyers’ remorse” in trading. Rob also discusses scaling in to a position. Rob talks about our tendency to add to our losing positions and yet, when things are going well, we tend to slam on the brakes.

Rob also recommends some good resources for traders during this episode. You can find some good information by going to Investopedia.com and looking up support and resistance. Rob also recommends reading Pring on Price Patterns by Martin Pring. Then there’s Edwards and McGee’s Technical Analysis of Stock Trends — another great resource. Also, Rob says you can order excellent DVDs on support and resistance trading at FXStreet.com. And Rob says you should also check out Edge Trading.co.

In this final part 3 of 3 series of episodes (spanning 202 through 204), your host Rob Booker addresses a third way of thinking about trading that isn’t goal oriented or process oriented. The Shoshin or “Beginner’s Mind” Approach to trading completely disregards ambition, and instead, actually assumes an attitude that is the opposite of ambitious. This approach comes from the idea of getting something by not striving to get something!

Rob grounds this abstract discussion by citing a few passages from his all-time favorite book, Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind. And during this episode, Rob addresses the phenomenon of the uncanny “beginner’s luck” that brand-new traders often enjoy as they begin their journey with the market. In this episode, Rob also talks about how a trader might go about releasing his or her ego and becoming one with the market. So, tune in and be at peace with The Traders Podcast.

In the previous episode of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker discussed committing to a process, rather than an end result. Episode 203 is part 2 of this discussion where Rob lays out a second methodology based solely on goals and outcomes. No limits. No boundaries. A mix between the law of attraction and the law of the jungle. So, Rob details the finer points of this “Alpha Cave-Person Approach,” and then he talks about how this Wild West sort of approach relates to having a 10-week year. This discussion is the second part of a three-part series that spans over Episodes 202 through 204 of The Traders Podcast. Don’t miss it!

About a month and a half before we reach New Year’s and a time of resolution-making, your host Rob Booker explains how he has moved from the Gregorian calendar to using a 10-week year. So, Rob details his relatively newfound schedule and how it works.

Next we dip into the mailbag and read a hilarious comment from James. Then Anthony from South Africa wrote to ask about trading competitions and whether their winners’ incredible results are legitimately possible. This leads to an intriguing discussion of the reality of making huge profits and how consistently it can be done.

And finally, Rob wraps up this episode by talking about implementing a process — and committing to that process — instead of solely striving for a specific end result. This discussion will become the first part of a three-part series that spans over Episodes 202 through 204 of The Traders Podcast. Don’t miss it!

We’re pleased to bring you another provocative solocast by your host, Rob Booker. In Episode 201, Rob explains how the worst traders have the worst kind of confidence. He shares a scary scenario from 12 years ago, and he poses the questions: Is day trading a total scam? Does it ruin lives? Rob tackles these questions and then carefully describes how we first ruin ourselves, then we ruin our trading accounts.

Next Rob talks about how trading is like religion, and he talks about the sorrow that comes from believing that trading is The Answer. Rob runs with this metaphor and discusses leaving the religion of trading and explains that trading is not The Answer, but something else… And finally, Rob encourages traders to become more rational — even hyper-rational.

If you’ve been feeling like you need to reflect on yourself as a trader, then this episode is definitely for you. Thanks for listening to The Traders Podcast.

For Episode 200 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker joins his trusty producer, Jason Pyles — in person in Salt Lake City — at the home of special guest Jared Johnson, the CEO, founder and president of Day Traders FX.com. To celebrate this monumental show, Rob and Jason spend some time reflecting over 200 episodes. And Rob talks about how in podcasting and trading, you just can be on your game every time…

Jared talks about how awful August 2013 was for his trading. And Rob talks about being his own worst enemy (particularly in trading) and watching himself do damage to himself. This leads to a discussion about the necessity to slog through the bad periods to get back to good again.

Rob mentions that he recently revisited Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” album, which made him think about the kind of walls we build around ourselves. Rob also talks about how we have visions of a spectacular future, and we make plans surrounding future success, but oftentimes, we end up merely having sufficient success, but that’s still remarkable. And Rob asks Jason and Jared if they consider themselves to be successful and comments on whether he considers himself successful.

And finally, Rob and Jason speculate about the future of The Traders Podcast. Thank you for listening to 200 episodes. It has been our honor and pleasure to bring them to traders around the world.

In Episode 199, your host Rob Booker delivers a raw, bare bones solocast where he riffs on all the problems associated with when things are going well. Rob talks about the dark problem with euphoria, and he also identifies what is your most powerful ally in your battle with the market. Rob speaks about the pitfall of mistaking one’s own greatness.

But most importantly, Rob addresses the show-no-emotion brand of trading and learning to calm the hell down. Rob also lists and expounds on the four steps to removing emotion from your trading, and he concludes by reading a poem from 1940. Enjoy!
