Podcast Episodes – Traders Podcast

Episode 630 of The Traders Podcast addresses a prominent condition of currency trading: disappointment. In this show, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss the clarity that comes from disappointment. We also talk about the way we conduct ourselves in the presence of various people, due to perceived expectations, and how this phenomenon carries over into our trading. For some traders, the way they think about their trading is a direct reflection of how they talk about it with the people in their lives.

And during this show Rob also talks about the unproductive thinking pattern of, “If I could just … then everything would work out.” That way madness lies… Speaking of lies, we also talk more about our favorite topic, self-sabotage! So listen to learn more!

Welcome to Episode 629 of The Traders Podcast, featuring your host, Rob Booker. During this show, Rob discusses how trend trading is accompanied by inherent weaknesses and obstacles that can’t be avoided. Even so, many traders still believe in trend trading as if it were “a trading religion,” of sorts. In fact, it seems that some traders are unable to imagine a world where anyone wouldn’t want to be a trend trader. So, given its prominence, Rob takes some time to focus on the principles of trend trading.

Welcome to a special edition of The Traders Podcast. Here in Episode 627, your usual host Rob Booker is traveling, so Jason the producer welcomes back guest host “The Coach” Scott Welsh! Scott asks a very simple question: Should traders follow the rules or not?

To tease out this mystery, Scott recounts his firsthand experience with a tennis student who followed all his coaching rules perfectly — to the letter. Scott talks about the great success this student found while following the structure that he put in place for her. Jason and Scott also discuss how some people actually ask for strict rules and why those people often do better!

But we also examine the downside to rules: What happens when the rule-maker disappears? What if the rule-follower no longer has problem-solving skills? Scott also spends some time talking about the concept of guidelines, an inevitably, he delivers a verdict on his initial question! But you’ll need to listen to find out more! Join us!

There are a number of expressions that can easily be applied to currency trading. For instance, the idea of “beginner’s luck” or not being able to “see the forest for the trees.” Many of these notions seem to hold true, including the suggestion that “absence makes the heart grow fonder.” Obviously, that expression speaks to human relationships, but any trader can attest that he or she has a relationship with trading, as well.

In Episode 626 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles talk about reinvigorating your creativity through taking a breather and then giving your trading a fresh start. Perhaps it’s time to explore a new platform, just for kicks. Maybe even take a look at a brand-new trading instrument. The idea is to stop the stagnation and break out of your daily rut. If you take a break from the market for a week, then when you return, note whether you see things differently! Try it out and let us know how it goes. Thanks for listening!

In Episode 625 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker might not sound like himself, but rest assured, it’s the real Rob!

During this unusual show, Rob draws parallels between the versatility of character actors and the necessity of having similar versatility as a currency trader. Rob suggests that traders should consider being versatile in a few financial instruments while developing a certain degree of proficiency in trading them.

In short, we’re talking about that sweet-spot where versatility and proficiency intersect in trading. Rob also tells us what his three favorite picks are (plus an honorable mention). Join us to hear more!

Welcome to The Traders Podcast Episode 624! Today your host Rob Booker and producer Jason Pyles dissect a trading mishap that Rob had recently. He recently took some trades with the New Zealand Dollar/US Dollar and the New Zealand Dollar/Canadian Dollar. You’d think that after 19 years of trading Rob would “follow the rules” but sometimes he makes it up as he goes a little bit, while staying within his main guidelines.

Occasionally you may want to get yourself into a trade that breaks your rules so that you learn how to manage that experience. You can cut it off immediately, sure. But, there are amazing things to learn from having an open position that went the wrong way.
