New to trading? Welcome! This episode is for you. Your host is Rob Booker.

There is a lot of information online from supposed traders claiming wild success and telling you to do some pretty crazy things.

New traders, you don't need to pay anyone any money and you don't need to buy anything. There's plenty of free information on YouTube and on Rob's YouTube Channel.

Here's what you do: choose a system and focus on that system for a while. Play with 5-10 trading systems in your first year. Rob recommends trying the system in paper trading and small live accounts. Consider this "the dating phase" of trading.

Rob also discusses solid expectations for the first couple of years as a trader and how to make it last as a trader. Thanks for tuning in!

Rob's got Italy and soccer on the brain today and you're in for a treat! Welcome to The Traders Podcast Episode 649. Your host is Rob Booker. Thanks for tuning in.

Looking at soccer as an analogy for trading is pretty telling, and fun. But who is "the other team" in trading? It's the market. If you let the market score against you and take money, you're going to lose. And, when you lose money in your trading account, that's the other side scoring points. Listen in as we kick around this idea a little more.

We're also talking about David. He's a $200 per day trader and that's a pretty good kind of trader to be.

Who is your favorite trader right now and why are they your favorite? Welcome to The Traders Podcast Episode 648. Thanks for tuning in today. Rob Booker wants to talk about a great trading mindset he just heard from David. Hi David! Thanks for your message.

Trading to make a little money is fine. It's great, even. Rob says, "Go get it." And, here's an interesting add on: Build a trading record that proves to investors that you know how to be consistently profitable. This is why David trades.

Welcome to The Traders Podcast Episode 645. Today Rob is talking about the benefits of being assertive as a trader. First of all, here's a huge shout out to those of you who got a spot in Rob's new trading program. Welcome!

So this is what being assertive as a trader looks like:

1. Keep a small position size and cut it off when it's a loser. This is a complete trading strategy all by itself. This is all you need to do forever. It hearkens back to a great book Bill Walsh wrote called The Score Takes Care of Itself. Check it out.

2. Grow up and take some pride in your trading as if your family's reputation was tied to your trading results. Definitely read the book by David Maraniss about Vince Lombardi. He ran a team with a culture of pride. It matters who we are and what we represent. How we conduct ourselves matters. Also read Extreme Leadership by Jocko Willink to make sure that you're passionate enough about your life to be awesome at what you do.

Rob gets about 100 social media messages a day and he loves it! He loves hearing from traders and talking about trades. When people asking him for trading advice he generally says the same two things, so this episode is dedicated to telling you just about the most important thing he can think of. Reduce your trade size and wait longer to get into the trade. Thanks for tuning in to Episode 643 of the Traders Podcast with your host Rob Booker.

If you have some time today google "Charlie Munger Wells Fargo 2010." You'll see a really good example of what we're talking about today. Charlie Munger is Warren Buffet's investing parter bought Wells Fargo at the exact low that it made during the financial crisis. That takes a lot of patience.

Have you ever wondered why you're able to trade really well for a while when you need to make money, you pay off some bills, and then your success levels off?

In Episode 642 of The Traders Podcast, Rob talks about why we often trade better when we have pre-determined to use our profits to pay down debt.

There is something majorly motivating about working toward paying off debt. Let's talk about why that is and how to structure our trading so that we can take advantage of this aspect of our psychology. Thanks for tuning in. Psst! Happy New Year! Your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles are back! Thanks for sticking with us.

In Episode 641, Rob and Jason announce the world premiere of The Traders Rap coming on January 31st! Are you ready for it? Get excited!

There are all kinds of natural laws of the universe. We see them all around us. But, are there natural laws of trading? Unfortunately, No. There are, however, probabilistic laws of trading.

The probability that the currency will, let's say, fall 10 points before it rises 5 points, is a probabilistic trading system. We operate based on probabilities like that. Knowing this, closing all winning trades even multiple times a day kept Rob out of the crash last month. Listen in to learn more!

Happy October! It’s been way too long. Your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles are grateful to be back in the saddle again on The Traders Podcast after a requisite hiatus. Thanks for sticking with us.

In Episode 640, Rob discusses a trading issue that he and other traders have struggled with: What if you have a question about your trading that you’re obsessing over? What if there’s a facet of your trading that just keeps haunting you? For instance, Rob’s haunting question of late has been this: How do I filter out the bad trades from my trading system?

Rob and Jason spend some time discussing what this sort of intense focus might mean and how to get past it and work through it. Rob also tells a truly horrifying story about a struggling trader who was trying to punish himself in an unthinkable way. Join us to hear more! Thanks for listening.

Welcome to the Traders Podcast Episode 638! Today your host Rob Booker indulges a current event question from Jason about Elon Musk’s recent investigation-stirring tweet.

This guy lives in the future. For traders it begs the question, “What kind of trader would a future-dweller be?”

A trader oriented in the future who is sitting on a lot of losing trades will be motivated to do something about it: close positions, hedge positions, etc.

A trader in the “now” will vacillate between worry and acceptance.

A trader living in the past will be replaying the movie of his past in his head.

Remember that Murphey’s law doesn’t state that whatever that is bad that could happen will happen; it just states that whatever can happen will happen.

Could you start and end every day with a bet about chaos? Could you benefit from that? Rob’s not sure yet, but he knows that things don’t stay where they are. There will be shocks to the system. Ask yourself, “what trade could I take that would benefit from an implosion of the status quo?”

Listen in for a great conversation that also circles around to The HBO hit Succession, Bitcoin and the upcoming Traders Rap! Thanks for tuning in!

Has your trading plateaued? Do you feel stuck in a rut? Traders commonly become impatient with the process because they just don’t feel like success is happening fast enough. How long should it take to become profitable? Many traders want to know how long until they can trade for a living.

In Episode 637 of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and Jason Pyles discuss how you can improve your trading by degrees and by eliminating the unnecessary aspects. Many traders further complicate their trading by trying to add to it, but ironically, trading tends to work better when you simplify your approach. Rob says we tend to think in terms of hours, minutes and days while the world of trading is measured in months, quarters, years and even decades. Listen to learn more!

What is your No. 1 goal in trading? To make money? No.

In Episode 636 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker explains why your No. 1 “secret goal” as a trader is to reduce drawdown. Rob says a trader’s primary responsibility is to reduce drawdown and cut your losses. You want to avoid holding on to your losses for long periods of time.

During this question-and-answer show, the producer Jason Pyles also talks to Rob about a number of universal, trading-related queries. Rob says the famous phrase in trading is, “You can’t win if you don’t play,” but the phrase should be, “You can’t play if you don’t win.” Listen to this episode to learn how to win more! Sometimes the events of the news don’t have to be strictly financially related in order for us to glean some truth about trading. In Episode 635, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss the recent, heroic rescue of the boys trapped in a cave in Thailand. We talk about pressure and deadlines. We also discuss rising to the occasion and calling upon reserves of strength and determination precisely when they’re needed. Rob also draws a parallel with the beginning of a trader’s career and the seemingly long, dark tunnel to attaining the status of a profitable trader.

In Episode 635, Rob also talks getting back on track at the last point where you knew you were still on course. We discuss the occasional necessity of having to repeat portions of a journey. Many traders find this very humbling and discouraging, but Rob talks about how it’s often a necessary part of the learning process. We also hear the story of David, a trader who Rob repeatedly challenged to make one dollar a day. Listen to hear what David eventually learned! Join us!

Continuing on with our interview series, Episode 634 of The Traders Podcast brings you the wisdom of Scott Heywood. He talks about his primary trading goal of just surviving to trade tomorrow and next week!

Scott says he doesn’t consider himself a trend trader or even a counter trend trader. He doesn’t make his decisions to trade based on whether a pair is trending. Scott talks about getting his news from Twitter, though he doesn’t let that information worry him or affect his approach to trading.

Scott also talks about his preference of having freedom and flexibility in his schedule rather than adhering to a daily trading routine. Scott does, however, have a weekly routine that he describes during this podcast. When asked how long it takes for a person to learn to trade for a living, Scott explains why it could be anywhere from six months to six years, depending on the individual. He also discusses the value of time and experience. Join us to hear more!

Welcome back to The Traders Podcast! Your host Rob Booker continues his interview series with the great trend trader Raghee Horner! She talks about the importance of having a short memory when it comes to good trades (as well as the bad ones). Raghee encourages the listeners to not take a stop-loss personally. In fact, Raghee says traders shouldn’t take anything personally.

During Episode 633, Raghee speaks about trading systems, trading routines and how she tracks her trading goals. She also talks about how fasting can help your trading! Raghee says a good trade is a story you can wrap your head around and then prove with price. And she tells us what she believes is the most common mistake that traders make! Join us to hear more!

In Episode 632 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker poses a number of interview questions for guest Scott Welsh to answer at his leisure. In this show, we ask what it means to “beat the market”? Better yet, how does one beat the market? For Scott Welsh, beating the market means creating a return that is consistently higher than if you just bought and held the S&P 500 Index.

Scott is also asked if he is a trend trader, a counter-trend trader or if making such a distinction is nonsensical. Scott talks about the biggest mistake that new traders make. And he also discusses trading goals. We talk about how long it takes for someone to learn to trade for a living when doing discretionary trading. And of course, Scott “The Coach” Welsh incorporates some parallel metaphors from his years of experience in the tennis world. In a very unusual episode of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker talks with the producer Jason Pyles about some of the themes of trading, including the perpetual pursuit of more time, money and influence.

Traders are also commonly subject to disappointment, heartbreak, depression, confusion, anger and self-sabotage. Traders are also full of hope and desires for fast cars and a beach-side life. Rob also discusses the characteristics of traders who “come up hard” by starting out in the traders’ school of hard knocks, so to speak.

Rob also commissions Jason to complete an intriguing task! Using some of the themes mentioned above, Rob hires Jason to write and record a traders’ rap song! Join us to hear more!

Episode 630 of The Traders Podcast addresses a prominent condition of currency trading: disappointment. In this show, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss the clarity that comes from disappointment. We also talk about the way we conduct ourselves in the presence of various people, due to perceived expectations, and how this phenomenon carries over into our trading. For some traders, the way they think about their trading is a direct reflection of how they talk about it with the people in their lives.

And during this show Rob also talks about the unproductive thinking pattern of, “If I could just … then everything would work out.” That way madness lies… Speaking of lies, we also talk more about our favorite topic, self-sabotage! So listen to learn more!

Welcome to Episode 629 of The Traders Podcast, featuring your host, Rob Booker. During this show, Rob discusses how trend trading is accompanied by inherent weaknesses and obstacles that can’t be avoided. Even so, many traders still believe in trend trading as if it were “a trading religion,” of sorts. In fact, it seems that some traders are unable to imagine a world where anyone wouldn’t want to be a trend trader. Welcome to a special edition of The Traders Podcast. Here in Episode 627, your usual host Rob Booker is traveling, so Jason the producer welcomes back guest host “The Coach” Scott Welsh! Scott asks a very simple question: Should traders follow the rules or not?

To tease out this mystery, Scott recounts his firsthand experience with a tennis student who followed all his coaching rules perfectly — to the letter. Scott talks about the great success this student found while following the structure that he put in place for her. Jason and Scott also discuss how some people actually ask for strict rules and why those people often do better!

But we also examine the downside to rules: What happens when the rule-maker disappears? What if the rule-follower no longer has problem-solving skills? Scott also spends some time talking about the concept of guidelines, an inevitably, he delivers a verdict on his initial question! But you’ll need to listen to find out more! Join us!

There are a number of expressions that can easily be applied to currency trading. For instance, the idea of “beginner’s luck” or not being able to “see the forest for the trees.” Many of these notions seem to hold true, including the suggestion that “absence makes the heart grow fonder.” Obviously, that expression speaks to human relationships, but any trader can attest that he or she has a relationship with trading, as well.

In Episode 626 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles talk about reinvigorating your creativity through taking a breather and then giving your trading a fresh start. Perhaps it’s time to explore a new platform, just for kicks. Maybe even take a look at a brand-new trading instrument. The idea is to stop the stagnation and break out of your daily rut. If you take a break from the market for a week, then when you return, note whether you see things differently! Try it out and let us know how it goes. Thanks for listening!

Welcome to The Traders Podcast Episode 624! Today your host Rob Booker and producer Jason Pyles dissect a trading mishap that Rob had recently. He recently took some trades with the New Zealand Dollar/US Dollar and the New Zealand Dollar/Canadian Dollar. You’d think that after 19 years of trading Rob would “follow the rules” but sometimes he makes it up as he goes a little bit, while staying within his main guidelines.

Occasionally you may want to get yourself into a trade that breaks your rules so that you learn how to manage that experience. You can cut it off immediately, sure. But, there are amazing things to learn from having an open position that went the wrong way.

Welcome to Episode 618 of The Traders Podcast! In this show, your host Rob Booker speaks with special guest Mark Langley, a former trading desk manager who shares some valuable insights from his years of experience! Mark and Rob talk about how the industry has changed, and they examine the present-day landscape.

It might sound counterintuitive, but oddly enough, sometimes the downfall of traders is simply having too much information. There seems to be a fine line, and perhaps, a proverbial sweet spot when striking that delicate balance. How much information do we traders need to be successful? If we have too much information, we might overcomplicate or overthink our trading strategy. And if we don’t have enough insight, then we could be approaching the market blindly.

In Episode 619 of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and Jason Pyles talk about the balance between learning more about the art and science of currency trading and not learning enough. There’s a classic debate in the world of trading about teachers: Is it better to learn from a teacher who is trading or from a teacher who is taking a break from trading? Join us to hear our take on this question and more!

In Episode 616 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles use the new Marvel blockbuster movie, “Avengers: Infinity War,” to draw some parallels to principles in trading. We don’t venture into major plot spoilers, and seeing the movie isn’t required for understanding this episode; however, in our next Part 2 of this theme, we would encourage everyone to see the movie because we will be delving into major spoilers for Episode 617, in order to make more in-depth trading comparisons. Welcome to The Traders Podcast, Episode 615! For today’s show, your usual host, Rob Booker, is traveling and having adventures, so Jason the producer invited “The Coach” Scott Welsh to guest host once again! You can find Scott online at: Scottwelsh.me

In Episode 615, Scott discusses how “dirty jobs,” or unpleasant jobs that nobody wants, are inherently insulated from the whims of the economy. They also tend to be lucrative! These are jobs that are always needed and always seem to have openings. Scott likens these types of unsavory professions to the nature of a perfect trading strategy: It’s not sexy or glamorous, but it’s profitable in the long-term. Scott asks us to think about what’s possible for our own trading careers if we’re willing “to get dirty” and do what others won’t! Join us to hear more!

In Episode 614 of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss the danger of thinking that you’ve arrived. We’ve all heard the stories or have seen movies that depict this phenomenon: The struggling artist creates from lowly means but is passionate and happy, nonetheless. Then the artist attains wealth and great success and becomes miserable and discontent.

There’s something important about remaining “hungry” and aggressive. Rob tells a true story where he witnessed this phenomenon with a hedge fund. If you start having trouble with your trading, try returning to your roots. Strip your trading back down to the very basics, just the essentials. Get rid of all the superfluous trappings and excess and restrict yourself from unnecessary information. Listen to learn more!

You may have heard many lucrative, CEO types say things like, “We overestimate what we can accomplish in a month and underestimate what we can accomplish in seven years.” Bill Gates said 10 years, but Jeff Bezos and Amazon have a seven-year time horizon. Either way, the principle is the same: These wealthy individuals are willing to wait several years for an idea to really start making money.

In Episode 613 of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss things that Rob keeps saying that no one ever seems to hear. For instance, from our previous episode, “taking small gains and compounding them over time” is one of those things, and it sounds similar to the Bezos / Gates approach mentioned above.

During this episode, we also talk about being too consumed with our problem rather than being consumed with our goals. We also discuss the distraction of caring too much about what other people think. Just remember: Trading is a marathon, not a sprint. Join us to learn more!

A recurring theme on The Traders Podcast is the long-view, sure-bet principles of minimizing your losses to small amounts and taking small gains and compounding them over time. This is the way to profitability in currency trading. Though it’s not very sexy or exciting, this method is analogous to “the goose that laid the golden eggs” from Aesop’s Fables. A trader can set aside one golden egg each day, or a trader can choose to become impatient, kill the goose, and lose everything.

In Episode 612 of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and Jason the producer talk about finding an approach to trading that’s easy for you to do successfully, regardless of how profitable it is, and then sticking with it for the long haul. Many traders tend to get bored easily, so they will wander away from something that’s actually working, just because it seems too simple. We hope you will give this episode a listen. We believe it will help! Join us!

Today’s lesson for The Traders Podcast, Episode 611, is both figurative and literal. First, your host Rob Booker lays the groundwork by talking about cleaning up your workspace to ensure that it’s tidy and organized. Will an empty desk with no clutter help you trade better? We believe it will.

Once you have cleared out your workspace and have thrown away the clutter and anything else that isn’t working, you can take the same action toward your trading account.

Rob is working on a new trading experiment along these lines. He’s running a robot in a $127,000 trading account. He has cleared the clutter and has thrown away anything that isn’t working. He closes his losses. Don’t hang onto something because you believe it might come in handy or you will use it later. Just let it go. Join us to learn more!

Whether we choose to monitor it or not, the markets are often influenced by the newsworthy developments of the day. Some currency traders watch the news and keep up with politics and geopolitical current events to help them predict direction and volatility in the market. Other traders feel that concerning themselves with “all that noise” can just be a distraction.

Either way, occasionally on The Traders Podcast your host Rob Booker will devote an episode to discussing current events and how they are influencing the market. Regardless of your politics, you’re welcome here! As Rob and the producer Jason discuss the current administration, we won’t take any stances one way or the other.

Instead, Rob’s objective in Episode 610 is to examine what’s happening with President Trump and how our current administration is affecting the stock market. Financial markets are adversely affected by political uncertainty, and there are many developments afoot that are influencing our trading. We hope you will listen to learn more!

Also in this episode, Rob reflects back on a prediction he made years ago on this podcast. He said Facebook stock would reach $100 a share and predicted that you — the Facebook user — would become “The Product.” You can hear more and revisit these predictions in the episodes linked below:

Welcome to The Traders Podcast, Episode 609! Today your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss the age-old expression, “curiosity killed the cat,” and explore how curiosity can help and hurt you as a trader. At first blush, one might agree with the adage because curiosity can certainly get you into trouble. On the other hand, because cats seem to have nine lives, they tend to do all right. When it comes to trading, though, we have to look more closely.

Traders are excited by new indicators, robots and the hope of finding some new way to become a profitable currency trader. This curiosity is always about making more money, but this is the kind of curiosity that can potentially get you in trouble. However, if you’re searching for a way to reduce your drawdown or reduce your losses, your curiosity surrounding that topic is on point! Rob wants to see more of this kind of curiosity!

If you woke up tomorrow and you had proof that you were living in a simulation, how would that change what you do? It’s an interesting question. Would you care about rules? Would you feel trapped or would you feel liberated? Welcome to The Traders Podcast Episode 607 today. We’re diving deep into a philosophical question with your host Rob Booker and producer Jason Pyles. Thanks for joining us!

When you think about it, it doesn’t really matter if we’re living in a simulation. Either way, there are consequences to the decisions we make. There are decisions we can make every day as a trader. And It’s still your choice what you do next.

Rob has met about 10,000 traders by now whom he would know by name and face. He knows traders, and he loves traders! The message he would share is this: wake your mind up. Imagine what the future holds for you if you don’t change your decision making process. Does your current path lead you to hit rock bottom. You take control of you. The market doesn’t have control over you. Remember: stop when things are going well. Start when the time is right and take a trade size so small that it doesn’t matter if you win or lose.

How important is it for you to be right all along? For whatever reason, some traders apparently feel it’s more important to be right than it is to be profitable. Don’t let your need to be right take precedence over your need to find out what’s true.

Many traders suspect that in order to be successful in trading, one must be right from the beginning. But how likely is it that anyone can be 100 percent correct 100 percent of the time? The most realistic scenario is being right eventually. Being right from the beginning is definitely preferable, and it’s a worthy ambition, as long as you remember that you don’t have to be right at the outset. It doesn’t matter how you arrive at profitability, as long as you get there.

In Episode 606 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss the importance of being right. We talk about the phenomenon where traders would do fine if they would just allow themselves the pleasure of making money, even though it doesn’t look like a method that anyone else is doing. If they weren’t so worried that what they’re doing isn’t legitimate, then they might just enable themselves to make some money! Join us to learn more!

In Episode 605 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles talk about how to know if you’re pursuing the right course in your trading. We discuss pushing your limits and maximizing your potential. We talk about a human’s ability to “see the light,” to become enlightened and to change.

There is an important distinction between pushing your limits to stretch and grow and simply pursuing the wrong course by “banging your head against a wall” or “trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.” There are pursuits that we can strive to achieve, and then there are ambitions we were never meant to pursue. This episode explores the idea of how maximizing your potential has to do with pushing yourself, yes, but pushing yourself in the right direction!

Episode 605 encourages you to take a self-inventory and to investigate whether there are any areas of trading where you’re “forcing it.” Are you pushing yourself to your limits but also failing — repeatedly? If this is the case, Rob says, then you’re not even close to maximizing your potential at all. Actually, you’re ruining everything.

Where are you most comfortable? Which trading pursuit feels best? Where are you relaxed and at ease? Listen to this episode to learn more!

Welcome to The Traders Podcast Episode 604. This morning your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles go back to the basics of currency trading.

As a teacher Rob knows that you always have something to learn when you get back to the basics. Here are the fundamental skills:

First, look for your support and resistance trend lines.
Second, watch the price action.
Third, study economics.

Beyond that homework, what are the qualities of a student? As Rob is training new traders there is a quality that tells him right away that they are going to be good. That quality is confidence - without arrogance - a little swagger that they know they can get this. They don’t get overwhelmed they just back up. They have a willingness to focus and a willingness to practice whatever it takes.

Remember the classic lyrics, “We’ve only just begun.” Often we get nervous about how much we don’t know. We may fall for the idea that the more you know the better you’ll do. That’s really only true when you study deep, not broad. Focus and stick with us, traders! Thanks for joining us today.

Welcome to The Traders Podcast! This is Episode 603, when your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss “the Portfolio Approach” to currency trading.

Traders are subject to a bizarre recency bias, where they tend to use the most current event or experience as a baseline for predicting what will likely happen in the future. In other words, traders often base their feelings about a certain robot or trading strategy on the outcome of the last trade they took. In Episode 603, Rob suggests that we should instead judge by using, what he calls, “the Portfolio Approach.” Join us to learn more!

In our previous episode of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles talked about your necessity as a currency trader to understand where you are. In Episode 602, we discuss the vital nature of understanding where you are going. This sense of direction is part of the equation for Elliott Wave traders, Fibonacci retracement traders, support and resistance traders, and even those rare, “prophetic” traders.

If you want to become a profitable currency trader, then you need to learn how to consistently have those “Babe Ruth moments,” like in the fifth inning of Game 3 of the 1932 World Series in Chicago, where you call your shot and skillfully predict where price is going. Where are you now, and where are you going? How much more do you really need to know? Listen to this episode and find out!

If you want to be a profitable currency trader, you need to understand where you are and where you’re going. It just makes sense. If you want to drive somewhere, you need to first understand your present location before determining which direction you should travel next to arrive at the desired destination. The same goes for trading: Before you can concern yourself with which direction the market is going, you first need to understand where it is at the present moment.

In Episode 601 of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles begin this first of a two-part series about Understanding Where You Are in Trading, which will be followed by our next episode, Understanding Where You Are Going in Trading. Join us!

Without any fanfare or pomp and circumstance, we bring you Episode 600 of The Traders Podcast, featuring your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles. During this show, Rob and Jason talk about a typical currency trader’s happy tendency to discover his or her preferred setup.

Over time, usually within two to three years, most traders settle into a particular methodology, complete with corresponding preferences and comfort zones. Naturally, one can’t always have the precise setup that one would like, but one can still strive to maintain that consistent traders’ “happy place.” And of course, each trader’s station and methods will be unique to that individual.

If you haven’t established your trading setup and processes that make you comfortable and happy as a trader, then you’re missing out on an enjoyable part of an important process that no one ever talks about. Build a trading space that’s inspiring to you, and you will be inspired while trading! We’d love to see your setup. Send us a picture to 304.281.8332.

Some of the most valuable advice is often the simplest. Occam’s razor, right? The best choice also happens to be the simplest.

Much like the Old Testament story of Naaman, the Syrian, who sought to be healed of leprosy through the prophet Elisha. When Elisha instructed Naaman to wash in the Jordan River seven times to be healed, Naaman initially refused. Naaman’s servant asked, “If the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest though not have done it?” Then Naaman humbled himself, washed seven times and was healed. (2 Kings 5)

Traders are often very similar to Naaman in this story, afflicted by the leprosy of loss. When they are given plain counsel such as, “Don’t lose money,” they think it’s too straight-forward, too obvious, and they dismiss it. What percentage of traders who have been listening to this series of episodes has been following every step Rob Booker has prescribed thus far? Join us in Episode 595 of The Traders Podcast to hear Step 2 of Rob’s Four Steps to Currency Trading: Don’t Lose Money!

The goal for most people is to learn how to trade for a living. Recently on The Traders Podcast, we’ve talked about learning how to lose and learning how to win and stop. In Episode 594, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss two other goals: the modest endeavor to make just one dollar, and then the ambitious goal to make $1,000 per day! This might sound ridiculous, but to most people out there, trading for a living also sounds ridiculous.

Generally speaking, we usually hit the goals that we set for ourselves. But if you want to reach beyond what you’ve been able to accomplish previously in trading, then you need to change what you’re doing. And to be clear, it’s not a matter of merely doing more of what you’ve been doing; we’re talking about seeking an approach that’s altogether different from what you’ve done in the past. It’s time to start something new and to rethink your approach to trading. Join us for Episode 594 to learn more about how to trade profitably!

Good morning and welcome to Episode 593 of The Traders Podcast! Your host Rob Booker and producer Jason Pyles have a great podcast for you today. We're bringing you Part 2 of a a 4-part series. If you haven't already, you should go back and listen to Episode 592: First Learn How to Lose.

Now! Moving on to Part 2! Rob teaches you how to make a $1,000 a week and, here's the crucial part: and then how to stop.

Here's a question: What can you buy for $1 a week? Answer: Not much. But, if you develop the patience needed to just make $1 a week for 4 weeks and then stop, then you have everything you need to grow into a profitable trader. Rob teaches traders everyday how to do this.

Once the discipline to stop is in place when you've earned a dollar, try to make $2 a week and then stop. You'll have to learn how to quit while you're ahead. You'll have to learn to "stop when you've lost, and stop when you've won."

"Trading is the game of knowing when to stop." And, little by little you can learn to make $1,000 in a week and stop.

Check out Rob's Trading System at RobBooker.com.

Here comes the cold water. Everybody wants to learn how to win at trading, but very few traders are willing to even consider — let alone follow — tried and true counsel for doing what it takes to become a profitable trader. In Episode 592 of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss how first learning how to lose is a necessary precursor to learning how to win.

Any great fighter will tell you that it’s imperative to learn how to take a hit. Sure! It’s always advisable not to get hit at all, but that’s just not the reality of boxing or trading. Perhaps you’ve heard the expression, “Don’t lose your shirt while trying to make a suit.” Or it might sound trite, but it’s true: Our greatest moments are born out of what we learned from our most spectacular failures. Join us for Episode 592 to learn more, if you think you’re ready to do what it takes to win.

Is it more difficult to manage yourself or others? If we’re honest with ourselves, for just a moment, we might realize that we often lie to ourselves. We tend to let ourselves off the hook, rationalize, and give ourselves a pass. It’s not a matter of being “too hard on yourself,” it’s actually a matter of simply being truthful. Trading can somehow bring out the liar in us all, if we’re not careful…

If you’re managing other people, then it’s obvious if they are not producing the required output for the job. But it’s much more difficult to hold our own feet to the fire. In Episode 591 of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles explore this phenomenon and encourage traders to stop lying to themselves. If you want to be a more profitable trader, it’s time to stop lying to yourself. Listen to learn more!

Does genuinely caring about the people you manage make it impossible to manage them properly? In Episode 590 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles begin with a debate about which management approach is more effective: caring for your team or remaining distant from them. And of course, this manage talk circles back to principles involving the “management of the creature,” which is to say, the management of oneself. So, join us for Episode 590 where we parse the importance of managing your own trading account.

Genius inventor Nikola Tesla claimed that when he had an idea, he would build it first in his mind. He would imagine all the ins and outs, finer points and various workings of whatever he planned to construct. Then once he planned the entire creation in his mind, he would proceed to physically build it.

In Episode 588 of The Traders Podcast, your hosts Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles discuss the notion of building first in your mind. In Episode 587 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker fulfills a popular listener sentiment by bringing you a longer episode! Jason would approximate that Bitcoin still hasn’t hit the mainstream collective conscious, meaning, regular people aren’t yet talking about it. If you call yourself a serious trader, though, you need to take a look at cryptocurrencies. It’s not a fad.

Rob and Jason tag team a great story about a friend who had made his own luck and succeeded in the world of business. Listen in to hear what he did with his winnings. Rob sat on the sidelines the last few times around, but he’s not going to dismiss the writing on the wall this time.

In Episode 586 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker explains why another Bitcoin drop is on the way. Recently the South Korean government announced restrictions on trading cryptocurrency, a crackdown that led to the drop in price of Bitcoin. The next day the very same news story was recycled again and Bitcoin dropped again. And it happened again … and again. So, in this episode, Rob discusses why this rare phenomenon could be very profitable to those who understand support and resistance. Rob predicts that there is probably at least one more substantial drop coming!
